Conservation Milestone in Minot: Critically Endangered Amur Tiger Cubs Born at Roosevelt Park Zoo
Zoya and cubs (born May 19, 2025)
On the evening of Monday, May 19th, Roosevelt Park Zoo proudly welcomed the birth of four critically endangered Amur tiger cubs. This marks the second litter for mother Zoya and the first offspring for father Finn, signifying a remarkable step forward in our contribution to global tiger conservation efforts.
Currently, Zoya and her cubs are off exhibit to allow uninterrupted bonding and ensure the cubs gain strength in a quiet, controlled environment. As their eyes open and mobility increases, the cubs will be gradually introduced to the exhibit’s day room, designed with heated floors for their comfort. Father Finn remains on exhibit and continues to have access to all three yards in the Amur tiger habitat.
upcoming public debut
The Zoo will continue to share updates on the cubs’ development through social media and local news. The official public debut of the cubs is planned for World Tiger Day, Tuesday, July 29th, when they will be introduced to the Amur Tiger River Valley outdoor exhibit. On this day, the Zoo will also reveal the cubs’ names and host a variety of educational and family-friendly activities focused on tiger conservation.
Roosevelt Park Zoo remains committed to the conservation of Amur tigers and other endangered species. We invite the community to join us in celebrating this joyful milestone, learning more about these majestic animals, and discovering how we can all contribute to their survival.
New Children’s Book Celebrates Zoya’s Journey
The Zoo is thrilled to announce the upcoming debut of a new children’s book, A Family for Zoya: The True Story of an Endangered Cub, written by Debra Kim Wolf. This heartfelt, true story follows Zoya from her birth at the Philadelphia Zoo, to being raised by a Sumatran tiger family at the Oklahoma City Zoo, and finally finding her home in Minot. The book will be available for purchase in the Zoo’s gift shop starting in July.
