Mission Statement

Roosevelt Park Zoo strives to provide education, experiences, and knowledge promoting wildlife understanding, conservation, and an intrinsic, personal connection with the natural world.

Vision Statement

We aspire to enthusiastically value, protect, and conserve the natural world.

Brief History

Minot’s beloved zoo was created established with humble beginnings on April 9, 1914 as Riverside Park Zoo with just 24 animals: 12 fox squirrels and 12 grey squirrels.

Seven years later, the zoo obtained its first large mammal – a male American bison. The following year, 1921, the zoo erected its first permanent structure – the Zoological building – which still stands today and serves as the zoo’s aviary.

Riverside Park became Roosevelt Park in 1922 following the death of former President Theodore Roosevelt.

Roosevelt Park and Roosevelt Park Zoo did not become independent entities until 1970.

There have been many changes since 1914 to today. Read the full history by clicking here.

Greater Minot Zoological Society

The Greater Minot Zoological Society is dedicated to supporting Roosevelt Park Zoo’s efforts to provide a quality zoological park for the enjoyment and education of its visitors through educational programs and displays, conservation awareness, promotion and fund-raising.

Greater Minot Zoological Society, previously referred to as Minot Zoo Crew, was created initially to provide the large cats with a new home. The board of volunteer community members continues today.
